The Rooster and the Fox
by: Helen Ward (Editor , Artist)
This picture book children's version of the Nun's Priest's Tale was both adapted and illustrated by Ward. Her images focus heavily on the animal characters of the tale, rather than depictions of the farm as setting. The fox pushing through the hedge, for example, takes up a double page, with only two sentences of the tale on the page. Another particularly notable image depicts all the birds and dogs of the farm staring off the right-hand side of the page, where a few of Chanticleer's feathers and a path of dust appear.
