Nicolson's translation covers the entire Canterbury Tales, and so Kent's corresponding pilgrim portraits do likewise. These pilgrim portraits are black-and-white, very square figures, rendered with basic, clean lines. The pilgrims' clothing tends to drape, much like the fabric depicted here on the volume's title page. There are small head and tail pieces at the beginning and end of each tale, done in similar style.
