Hill's volume includes the tales of the Knight, the Pardoner, the Prioress, and the Nun’s Priest. This translation is unusual in including other works, most notably The Book of the Duchess and lyrics "The Golden Age" and "Truth." Rosse has designed three types of images for the volume: full page black and white illustrations; headpieces and tail pieces; and borders that often incorporate floral patterns. The opening image depicts the pilgrim party, and there are marginal portrait miniatures of each pilgrim in the General Prologue at the appropriate place for it. Most of these are stylized illustrations, not prioritizing realism. The illustration for The Book of the Duchess depicts the knight and his lady playing chess. Hill also did a translation of the Canterbury Tales which was published without illustrations, published by Longmans, Green and Co., in 1943.
