title Gloria in excelsis Deo en fraunceis. As with a few other religious items (arts. 58, 72, 91, 97, 98, 113), the scribe supplies the title and underlines it in red. Here the title is noticeably multilingual, explaining to a reader that the sacred Latin hymn is rendered in French. This is a rare gesture on the part of the Ludlow scribe, though he does frequently display linguistic inquisitiveness regarding etymologies.
